How to Teach Reading
In This Course You Will Learn Techniques That Are Absolutely Essential To Teach Reading Effectively.
This Course Focuses On Five Essential Requirements:
- Phonemic Awareness: It is imperative that phonemic awareness be established prior to—and developed throughout—any reading acquisition program. You will learn what phonemic awareness is and how to provide it!
- You will be given a PDF worksheet of several phonemic awareness exercises to download and print!
- The Correct Sounds of the Alphabet: Many well-meaning teachers and parents inadvertently teach incorrect sounds of letters and digraphs, which makes decoding even more difficult for struggling readers! It is critical that the corrects sounds are taught. You will learn how to pronounce the TRUE sounds of each letter to eliminate this confusion!
- You will be provided with a downloadable PDF of each letter of the alphabet which describes HOW to correctly say the most common sound of each letter AS WELL AS an audio clip recording of the proper pronunciation of each letter!
- Controlled Blending: The most common error that a struggling reader will make is connected to a lack of controlled blending. You will learn what to watch for and how to help develop this essential skill!
- A physical tool is needed to develop controlled blending. This provides a multi-sensory experience and can be the GAME CHANGER you have been looking for. You will discover the most important TOOL you can give your student to help them control their blending.
- True Sight Words: Sight words must be taught in a completely different way than phonetically regular words! The "true sight words" list is different from other common sight word lists because it includes ONLY the words which cannot be decoded using typical phonetic patterns, in the order an emerging reader would encounter them. You will learn what true sight words are and how to teach them in a way that works!
- You will receive a downloadable PDF of 80 true sight words AS WELL AS several activities which will help in the memorization of these difficult words!
- Generous Practice with Controlled Text!: The final piece of a struggling reader’s puzzle is access to ample practice activities—with extremely careful and controlled text! You will learn what "controlled text" is and where to find it!
